Gem Forge Guide

Complete guide to the Gem Forge minigame - mining, cutting, orders, enchantments, and rewards

Gem Forge Guide

The Gem Forge is a Crafting & Mining minigame set in Grunvik's underground workshop. You'll mine gems, cut and polish them through 4 processing stations, fill orders for Dwarven Favor, and craft powerful Enchantment Scrolls. This guide covers everything from top to bottom.

Skills Used: Crafting (primary, levels 1-99) and Mining (pickaxe requirements per gem tier). Higher levels unlock better gem types and processing stations.

Getting There

Use the Teleporter at home and select Gem Forge under Minigames to travel there.

The Workshop

The Gem Forge is a large underground cavern containing everything you need:

How It Works (Gameplay Loop)

The Gem Forge follows a simple loop:

  1. Talk to Grunvik and accept an order (he'll show you 10 choices).
  2. Mine gems from rock piles using your pickaxe.
  3. Process gems through the stations to reach the required quality.
  4. Deposit gems into the correct sorting sacks.
  5. Turn in your completed order to Grunvik for rewards!
Tip: Right-click Grunvik for quick options: Talk-to (orders & turn-in), Rewards (shop), and Exchange (trade cracked gems for favor).

Gem Types

There are 8 gem types that match the server's skilling resource tiers. Each requires a specific Crafting level to mine and a matching-tier pickaxe:

GemTierCrafting LevelPickaxe Required
Verdite11Verdite Pickaxe+
Azurite210Azurite Pickaxe+
Violite330Violite Pickaxe+
Obsidianite450Obsidianite Pickaxe+
Lunarite570Lunarite Pickaxe+
Glacite680Glacite Pickaxe+
Emberite790Emberite Pickaxe+
Divinite899Divinite Pickaxe+
Note: Higher-tier pickaxes can mine lower-tier gems. A Divinite Pickaxe can mine all 8 types!

Mining Gems

Click on gem rock piles to extract uncut gems. Here's how mining works:

Rock Mechanics

  • Each rock pile can be mined 3-5 times before it depletes.
  • Depleted rocks respawn in 10-15 seconds.
  • There are 3 rocks per gem type (24 total), so you can rotate between them.
  • Success: You receive 1 uncut gem + Mining XP.
  • Failure: You receive 1 Cracked Gem (junk) + small Mining XP.
  • Mining success rate decreases with higher gem tiers. The Gemcutter's Outfit boosts success!

Processing Stations

After mining uncut gems, you must process them through stations to increase their quality. Each station has a level requirement and success rate:

1. Cutting Station (Level 1+)

Click the Cutting Station with uncut gems in your inventory.

  • Rough Cut - 75% success rate (0.7x XP multiplier)
  • Cut - 60% success rate (1.0x XP multiplier)
  • Failure: Gem is destroyed and becomes a Cracked Gem.

The station randomly produces either Rough Cut or Cut quality on success.

2. Polishing Wheel (Level 20+)

Takes Rough Cut or Cut gems and polishes them.

  • Polished - 50% success rate (1.3x XP multiplier)
  • Failure: Gem downgrades to Cut quality (not destroyed).

3. Precision Table (Level 40+)

Takes Polished gems and refines them to the highest qualities.

  • Brilliant - 40% success rate (1.6x XP multiplier)
  • Flawless - 30% success rate (2.0x XP multiplier)
  • Failure (Flawless attempt): Downgrades to Brilliant.
  • Failure (Brilliant attempt): Downgrades to Polished.

Process Polished → Brilliant first, then Brilliant → Flawless for the best quality.

4. Fusion Anvil (Level 70+)

A special station that does not process order gems. Instead, it uses Reward Gems to craft Enchantment Scrolls. See the Enchantments section below for full details.

Quality Tiers

Every gem in the Gem Forge has one of 5 quality tiers. Higher quality = more XP, more Dwarven Favor, and more valuable orders:

QualityStationCrafting ReqSuccess RateXP MultiplierOn Failure
Rough CutCutting175%0.7xDestroyed
CutCutting160%1.0xDestroyed
PolishedPolishing2050%1.3xDowngrade to Cut
BrilliantPrecision4040%1.6xDowngrade to Polished
FlawlessPrecision4030%2.0xDowngrade to Brilliant
Key Point: Only Cutting failures destroy gems. Polishing and Precision failures just downgrade the gem - you can always try again!

Orders

Orders are the main way to earn Dwarven Favor, XP, and Reward Gems.

How Orders Work

  • Talk to Grunvik and choose "Get an order".
  • You'll see 10 randomly generated orders (paginated, 4 per page).
  • Each order has a difficulty rating (1-5 stars) based on your Crafting level.
  • Orders specify which gems, what quality, and how many you need.
  • Click an order to preview it, then click "Accept" to start.
  • You can re-roll for new orders (30-second cooldown).

Difficulty Scaling:

DifficultyEntries Per OrderQty Per GemXP BonusFavor Bonus
1 Star1-2 gems1-2 each+8%+20%
2 Stars1-2 gems1-3 each+16%+40%
3 Stars2-3 gems2-4 each+24%+60%
4 Stars2-3 gems2-5 each+32%+80%
5 Stars3-4 gems3-6 each+40%+100%

Max difficulty unlocked by level: 1 star at level 1, +1 star per 20 Crafting levels (max 5 stars at level 80+).

Order Rewards (on turn-in):

Sorting Sacks

After processing your gems to the required quality, deposit them into the 8 sorting sacks lined up along the wall:

Deposit Rules

  • Each sack corresponds to one gem type (Verdite through Divinite, left to right).
  • You must deposit gems into the correct sack matching the gem type.
  • Gems must match the quality and quantity specified in your order.
  • Grunvik will yell at you if you use the wrong sack!
  • Once all sacks are filled, talk to Grunvik to turn in your order.

Dwarven Favor

Dwarven Favor is the Gem Forge's unique currency. It's stored on your account (not an item) and used to buy rewards from Grunvik's shop.

Earning Favor:

Tip: Don't throw away Cracked Gems! They stack up quickly and the 3 favor each adds up over time. Exchange them in bulk with Grunvik.

Reward Shop

Right-click Grunvik and select "Rewards" to open his shop. Everything costs Dwarven Favor:
